My health provider was killing me!

I am not a rare case, in fact, I would bet that there are thousands of fair skinned people that already deal with sun issues, that were prescribed the same high blood pressure medicine I was prescribed.

After months of my skin turning red every day on my hands, neck, face, and especially around the eyes, I gave up and went to my health provider assigned doctor.  She was the one that had prescribed the blood pressure medicine to me. She gave me the once-over, asked if I had changed soaps, or laundry detergent, and when the answers were all no, she gave up on the cause and prescribed an ointment for the dry, flaking, chaffed skin.

Then she sent me to the optometrist because my eyes would not stop watering, another wonderful thing going on that they couldn't figure out. He asked if I had changed anything in my life, and again I answered no. The Optoguy prescribed two hundred dollar eye drops and warned me not to overuse them, or I could get cataracts.

So now I have a nasty oily ointment all over my hands, face, and neck while I'm trying to work. It's getting all over everything, and it's getting worse. I'm scared to death of overusing the eye drops so I don't get cataracts, and my eyes are still watering. I'm going through boxes of tissues, and I'm thinking I have a disease that no one can cure!

A few weeks later I inform the healthcare team that I am getting worse. The doctor panics and sends me to an Indian Dermatologist on the other side of the Denver Metro Area, and after five minutes of looking at me and the drugs I was prescribed by her, he says the high blood pressure medicine you are taking is causing you to be sensitive to sunlight.

I WAS SOOO RELIEVED, BUT SO MAD, BUT SO HAPPY!?!

It has only been a few days on the new high blood pressure medicine, and I am 100% cured, with a normal pale skin color again. My eyes stopped watering too, they were just completely sunburned.

What I learned is that the fantastic, helpful world of big data and artificial intelligence hasn't caught up with medical providers yet. My doctor should have been told by some kind of AI that with my fair skin, and at Denver's elevation, I should never under any circumstances be allowed to use that medicine. At least one doctor took the time to read the side effects of it and save me from a horrible Indiana Jones style face melting!
